Teaspiration with MLK

MLK Jr. with tea - photo from internet

Happy Dr. MLK Jr. Day!! I love that I found this picture of him with a cup of tea. He is my number one American hero. America could certainly use his wisdom right now. I wish to honor him today in this space by sharing some of my favorite MLK Jr. quotes. If you have one you love that you don’t see on this list, please feel free to share it in the comments below!

*

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

*

“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”

*

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

*

“History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.”

*

“It’s all right to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps.”

*

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

*

“Everybody can be great … because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”

*

“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.”

*

“There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must take it because his conscience tells him it is right.”

*

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.

*

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
